Electric underfloor heating
Underfloor heating is becoming increasingly popular in this country, as it not only keeps feet pleasantly warm, but also ensures economical operation. This is because the underfloor heating system operates with very low temperatures. This is thanks to its design.
Strictly speaking, an underfloor heating system is a large radiator. As a general rule, heating water flows through it. This area heating system heats up and emits thermal energy to the room in the form of radiant heat, similar to an infrared heater. Unlike the classic version, electric underfloor heating does not have heating water flowing through it. Instead, electrical conductors ensure that the electric underfloor heating system warms up quickly.
Benefits of electric underfloor heating
Planning the operation of a classic underfloor heating system takes a lot of time and effort. In addition, the purchase and installation costs are significantly higher than with electric underfloor heating. Last but not least, this type of system is difficult to retrofit. With the electric version, it's a whole different story. This system can be installed quickly and easily. Besides their use in new build, they are also recommended for retrofitting in renovation and modernisation projects. Especially in bathrooms or kitchens, electric underfloor heating makes feet feel pleasantly warm when the central heating is switched off in the summer.
"I used to have to go to a gym to lift weights for strength training. Now I don't need to use the car, I have more time for my family, and am helping protect the environment." The Vitoplanar electric underfloor heating system in the fitness room and shower is also efficient and environmentally compatible. Space saving infrared area heating is additionally installed.
"Since I only train here at certain times, the house is heated quickly and doesn't use energy unnecessarily." A sauna in winter helps make the body more resilient and recover more quickly from a competition or a strenuous training session. A large PV system can be seen on a neighbouring barn roof. The electricity is still fed into the grid, "but we want to use it ourselves in the future and install a battery storage system for this purpose".
Special features of the Vitoplanar electric underfloor heating system
Retrofitting electric underfloor heating is easy thanks to the numerous methods that are now available. Electric heating mats, for example, are one of the comfort features installed in new build or modernisation projects. Heat is generated directly, without the need for conventional pipework. In addition, energy losses are avoided. In low energy and passive houses, electric area heating systems are also an alternative to conventional boilers, due to their low energy demand for heating. The space otherwise needed for this can be saved or used differently.
Electric heating systems can be installed under different types of floor. In addition to laminate and parquet floors, an electric area heating system can also be installed under tiles or ceramic flooring without any problems. At the same time, the costs for an electric floor tempering system are low compared to the total investment. Viessmann's electric heating systems are quickly installed, with a manageable amount of installation effort. Read in detail how electric underfloor heating works on the page on thin-bed heating system.
The heating mats, being just 1.3 millimetres thick, are also suitable for laying under laminate and parquet flooring. They are the ideal solution in an apartment renovation when conventional underfloor heating is opted for instead of renewing the screed.
The mats are laid as a floating substrate. Quickly and easily installed with just one connecting cable. They can be flexibly adapted to the size of any room thanks to their different outputs and sizes. They are also available in a kit with a controller and accessories.
